Used Sand
This residue is a leftover from the molds used in foundries to produce castings. Initially, this residue consisted of appro-ximately 98.5% new silica sand and 1.5% additives. Once used, this sand mixture should be disposed as per the requirements of the Ministère du Dévelop-pement Durable, de l’Envi-ronnement et des Parcs du Québec.
Slags
Slags are generated during the melting process, eliminating impurities in alloy steels. Slags occur in various sizes and their silica content is considerably lower than used sand.
Dust
Dust is captured at various collection stations within the foundry and is stored in silos. Its nature is similar to sand, but is significantly finer in particle size and can include additive particulate.

In order to be improved, these residues must go through physical treatment, such as screening and milling. Through the years, RLC has developed an expertise in this area and is now a leader in this field.
